WHAT IS PLAYING FLUTE FROM THE INSIDE OUT?

Have you ever wondered what's happening inside your body as you play the flute?

Explore your flute-playing body to discover how greater awareness and understanding can improve your breathing, tone, articulation, technique, and musical expression by uncovering and releasing unnecessary tension, allowing you to discover more efficient ways to move and play with ease, confidence, freedom, and expression.

What does "inside" mean?

When we think about playing the flute, we often focus on what can be seen and heard—our flute, posture, technique, tone, articulation, and musical performance. A lot happens inside the body that we can’t see that’s worth looking into.

"Inside" is your body, your breathing, your movement, your imagery, your senses, your attention, and your musical intention. These inner experiences work together to shape what ultimately becomes music. By discovering what is happening within you, you can uncover new possibilities that transform what is heard on the outside.

IS THIS FOR YOU?

This class is for flutists who want to learn new ways to improve their flute playing. Are you curious how to breathe with greater ease and efficiency, develop a more resonant, expressive tone, improve articulation and technical freedom, reduce unnecessary tension and pain, and develop more confidence? This class invites you to go deeper into your flute-playing body to discover how to make changes for the better.

Playing Flute from the Inside Out

MY APPROACH

My classes are interactive, student-centered, and built around curiosity, observation, and exploration. Together we'll discover what's happening inside your flute-playing body and explore what's behind efficient breathing, a resonant tone, clear articulation, effortless technique, and expressive playing.

I believe every flutist has the capacity to grow. I listen carefully, meet you where you are, and guide you toward the changes that will make a big difference in your playing. Nothing is more rewarding to me than seeing students discover new possibilities and experience greater ease, confidence, and freedom in their playing.

Playing Flute from the Inside Out is informed by the principles of Body Mapping for Musicians, Franklin Method, studies with Keith Underwood, and foremost my own experience as a flutist, teacher, and music wellness educator.
