About Ruth Kasckow
For more than three decades, Ruth Kasckow has devoted her life to the art of music-making—as performer, educator, and guide. A flutist known for expressive depth, tonal warmth, and interpretive sensitivity, she brings both technical refinement and emotional insight to every performance.
Her work brings together performance, teaching, and movement-based approaches to support both artistic expression and physical ease in music-making.
Performer
Ruth has performed extensively as a soloist, chamber musician, and orchestral flutist throughout the Los Angeles area. Her playing is characterized by a nuanced musical voice, attention to detail, and a deep commitment to communicating the emotional and structural essence of the music.
She performs in the Kasckow–Pezzone Flute and Piano Duo, where she explores a wide-ranging repertoire alongside pianist and composer Bryan Pezzone. Their collaboration blends traditional repertoire with improvisation and contemporary works, creating performances that are both engaging and deeply expressive.
Educator
As a teacher, Ruth offers thoughtful, individualized instruction grounded in strong musical fundamentals and refined technique. She works with students of all levels—from school-age musicians to college students, professionals, and adult amateurs—supporting each student’s development with care, clarity, and high artistic standards.
Her teaching emphasizes not only technical and musical growth, but also the development of confidence, independence, and a deeper connection to one’s own musical voice.
Body Mapping for Musicians
Ruth is a Licensed Body Mapping Educator (since 2010), trained through the Association for Body Mapping Education. Her work in Body Mapping helps musicians understand how the body is designed to move, allowing them to replace unnecessary tension with coordinated, efficient, and reliable movement.
By refining this understanding, students are able to improve technique, prevent injury, and experience greater freedom and ease in their playing.
This work reflects Ruth’s ongoing interest in how musicians learn, move, and perform, and how greater awareness can support both technical development and artistic expression.
Franklin Method®
Ruth is a Franklin Method Educator (Level 4), having completed the full progression of training in this work. The Franklin Method uses imagery, movement, and embodied anatomical understanding to improve how the body functions.
Through this approach, students and clients learn to move with greater efficiency, balance, and coordination, supporting both performance and overall well-being. This work complements her teaching by offering practical tools to improve movement and reduce strain, both in music-making and in daily life.
Closing
Ruth’s approach is grounded in curiosity, clarity, and a deep respect for each individual’s learning process. Whether working with musicians or individuals interested in movement and well-being, she creates a supportive environment where growth, confidence, and meaningful change can take place.
