French Impressions for Flute

Contents: Phillippe Gaubert Fantaisie, Gabriel Faure Fantasy, Claude Debussy Syrinx, Darius Milhaud Sonatine, Francis Poulenc Sonata, Jacques Ibert Piece, Pierre Sancan Sonatine

Ruth Kasckow, flute and Christopher Brennan, piano

"The music I have chosen for this CD represents a sampling of the rich repertoire flutists are lucky to have. Whether it is Debussy telling us the story of Syrinx and his pan pipes, or Milhaud taking us through lively and interesting juxtapositions for the flute and piano, each composition evokes a world of its own individual style, sonorities and sensibilities. I hope you enjoy the music and it leaves you with your own impressions." - Ruth Kasckow

German Expressions for Flute

Contents: Carl Reinecke Sonata, J.S. Bach Sonata in C Major, C.P.E. Bach Sonata in a minor for solo flute , Hans Werner Henze Sonatine, Robert Schumann Three Romances, Paul Hindemith Sonata

Ruth Kasckow, flute and Christopher Brennan, piano

"The idea for recording German Expressions for Flute comes from my interest in music composed in a specific country. I have chosen some of my favorite pieces by German composers of the mid-eighteenth through mid-twentieth centuries representing the Baroque, Romantic and Modern periods of music. The pieces are very different in style and character based on their varied historical contexts. But those differences are overshadowed by their striking similarities: dramatic expressivity, rich sonorities, emotional depth, ingenious musical ideas and a strong sense of humanity." - Ruth Kasckow
